search engine relationship chartThere are literally thousands upon thousands of search engines on the internet, however the vast majority service particular niche interests and are mostly unheard of by the general community.

Of the more widely known search engines, the top four account for almost 90% of search queries (Google 46.3%, Yahoo 23.4%, MSN 11.4% and AOL 6.9% - November 2005).

Unbeknown to most people, many of the better known search engine brands are owned by other search engines, and most share their search results through contractual arrangements.

Search engines use rule-based algorithms to determine webpage rankings. Although the algorithms vary from one search engine to another, it is widely recognised that keyword-rich content combined with a high link popularity are the main ingredients in obtaining a good search result listing.

URL Submission

Opinion throughout the industry is now divided about the value of directly submitting a website to the search engines. Many consider it is no longer necessary because the search engine spiders will eventually find every website, whether the URL is submitted or not.

We maintain that submitting a URL to the major search engines and directories is still in the best interests of our clients. We concede there is no value to be gained by submitting to every known search engine on the grounds that search engine results are shared.
